      [2010-05-17 14:51:49] Quick Way to Test NTC Thermistors Exposed (B)


      We, the Department of Technical Engineering (“DTE” as below), are instructed by KPD Technology Development Limited (the “Company”) to represent the best interest of the clients of the Company and provide a technical report to you and the Company for due and careful consideration before significant investment/procurement decision to make.
      1. PURPOSES
      DTE provides you with an easy and quick way to test NTC thermistors under circumstances that no specialized NTC thermistor detector, specialized meter, and alligator clips are available. Although the accuracy cannot be taken into consideration for professionalism purpose, this way introduced hereby can provide the approximation of resistance value and accuracy.
      DTE advises you to prepare the following tools and materials:
      1. Two units of universal meters;
      2. A thermostatic oil receiver in an appropriate size subject to your own option, usually 500×300×100;
      3. A thermometer with an accuracy of 0.1℃;
      4. One set of stainless alligator clips; and
      5. Salad oil in an appropriate amount subject to the full size of the oil receiver.
        1. Fill the thermostatic oil receiver with salad oil (note: please place a plastic board with thickness around 3 to 5 mm beneath the oil receiver as thermal insulation);
        2. Place the thermometer into the oil receiver with its mark upwards and make sure that the entire thermometer is in the oil;
        3. Interconnect the pair of alligator clips to both ends of a pair of universal meter;
        4. Attach the wires of the standard thermistor to alligator clips, and connect one end of the universal meters A with one end of universal meters B. After this, turn on the universal meters and properly adjust its thermistor measuring parameter, and resistance value of the thermistor will be shown according to the current room temperature on universal meters (Note: nominal resistance value should be within ±0.1% and B value should be ±1%);
        5. Place the alligator clips into the oil receiver filled up with salad oil, and ensure that the entire clips and the entire thermistors are placed in the oil. The universal meter is used to monitor the temperature changes of the oil inside the oil receiver;
        6. The constant temperature of the thermistor in the oil can be measured when universal meters that monitors the oil temperature shows a relative stable values reading a stable temperature in the oil. By then, a comparative measurement can be conducted when the resistance value and accuracy shown on the monitoring thermistor attached by alligator clips is comparable to those of a thermistor to be measured.
        1. The oil temperature in the oil receiver must be controlled within the temperature degree range of 25±3℃, and thus all windows must be closed up when the measurement test is underway in order to reduce the air flow and prevent interior personnel moving back and forth.
        2. If the stable temperature cannot reach the accuracy, a thermistor that contains the same resistance accuracy could be used as a oil temperature monitor for comparative measurement.
        3. Two units of universal meters MUST be correctly adjusted before the measurement and consistency test on the two units should be run at least twice.
        4. The constant temperature of the thermistor to be measured in the oil should have a stable temperature over two minutes and needs to be completely in the oil.
        5. The temperature probe, the thermistor monitor, and the thermistor to be measured should be placed in the same area of the oil receiver so as to ensure the accuracy of the measurement.
